  Ye, I agree but in some markets it's easier to tell than others. Like Ferrari doesn't care how cheap your ford is, and is instead focused on the small amount of manufacturers in their sub market. So triple A games only have to compare to each other and not small studios, even ones like Larian. And with rockstar spending 2 billion (ish) it muddies the water. Going to be interesting to see how they respond, and how the market treats these companies differently.

  My thoughts are about the legitimacy of those costs that are increasing. Are they valid costs or are companies puffing up those costs or including unnecessary costs (we need 4 executives and and 2 directors on each game or we will fail). But as I said, all prices rise eventually. Also, digital games have distribution costs, steam wants 30%, so the price wouldn't be too different between digital and physical.

  I think the price arguments are more complex than people make out. I'm not in the industry so there are cost dynamics I won't understand, but some PS1 games went for $50 in 1998 ($95 now) so there must be more to it. I know tech reduces in price as the market grows, economy of scale, but costs do grow too, so the price will rise again at some point.

  You still still need to include the cost to ship and distribute them in the US. In 2020 they were reporting that it cost $450 to get it made, which would include getting it onto he shelf. The cost will always be lower in Japan. That said, $450 would have struggled to have risen to $900, so there may be more greed than I expected.
